The Kumasi Polytechnic was transformed into the Kumasi Technical University. In September 2016, the Kumasi Polytechnic’s name changed to Kumasi Technical University, under the new technical university statutes. This has been the official name since the 2016/2017 academic year. Through the university's transformation, the faculty is not exempted from name changes. It started as the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (CEED) in 2007 – the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (IEED) in 2011 – the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (FEED) in 2018.
The Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development at the Kumasi Technical University is one of the longest-standing and one of the leading entrepreneurship faculties in Africa. In 2007, the idea of the Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development was pioneered by Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Dwomo-Fokuo, the Foundation Director of the Institute with the help of Professor Francis Boadu and Dr, Solomon Kwarteng Forkuoh. They had the burning desire to develop the add-on-entrepreneurship course into a program that would be venture creation orientated to prepare young entrepreneurs adequately to meet the challenges of present times and to spearhead socio-economic development through the application of entrepreneurial skills. Thus, the Entrepreneurship Faculty encompasses the full entrepreneurial journey. We start by empowering aspiring entrepreneurs through the creation and development of early-stage ventures, and we then move on to the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.
