The vision of the Department is to be the center of excellence for training highly skilled agribusiness graduates and professionals who can significantly impact the agribusiness sector at the community, national and global level.

The Agropreneurship Department exists to provide excellent training through teaching, research and consultancy for students and agribusiness entrepreneurs who can contribute to agricultural transformation and agribusiness development in Ghana.

Welcome to the Department of Agropreneurship 


The Department of Agropreneurship (DoA) of Kumasi Technical University KsTU under the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (FEED) currently runs four programmes: Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agribusiness with Entrepreneurship; Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agribusiness with Entrepreneurship; Diploma (Dip) in Agribusiness and Finance; and a Master of Science (MSc) in Agribusiness and Food Industry Management. We are expecting to roll out two more programmes, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and a Master of Science (MSc) very soon.

Our Programme Focus

Agri-preneurship 


Students are exposed to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, skills and character traits needed for successful entrepreneurship, opportunity identification, conceptualization of business ideas, feasibility studies, development of business plan, and implementation of plan. Students establish and manage mini-agribusiness ventures for a period of 4-semesters with new knowledge and entrepreneurship mind-set training. 

Postharvest Technology and Management 


Students are introduced to and equipped with in-depth knowledge, understanding and competencies in the principles and practices of the transformation processes for fresh foods from farm to fork (processing and value addition to raw agricultural commodities and its role in providing quality, safe and nutritious food products for consumers). In addition, facilitating aspects such as food storage, transportation, and marketing that enhances overall food and nutrition security are addressed. 

Animal Production and Management  


It involves equipping students with the knowledge in the science of animal production, high-level training and skills to adopt good husbandry practices (GHP) in managing both conventional and non-conventional animals. Attention is paid to helping students understand basic principles and practices underlying livestock production, commercial production and management practices and how to deal with emerging challenges in the livestock subsector. 

Crop Production and Management 


Students learn the core principles and practices in tropical crop production; the agronomy, management, and improved production practices. The focus is on skilling students to appreciate the use of good agricultural practices (GAPs), improved technologies, sustainable production systems, and management in commercial production systems. Graduates are expected to establish and successfully manage commercially oriented crop fields and plantations, including greenhouse systems.

Agribusiness Management 


Students are introduced to the complex nature, scope, and uniqueness of agribusiness; the application of science, technology, research, economics, and marketing in agriculture; and how management principles can be applied in agriculture. Emerging issues such as food systems transformation, genetically modified organism and food security, climate change and agricultural resilience, application of ICT in agribusiness and linkage of agribusiness to food industry are addressed, among others. Students are exposed to the challenges and opportunities in the agribusiness sector including the global food market.
