A momentous occasion unfolded at the Juansa Campus of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North Constituency, Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi, led the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a fully furnished laboratory and workshop. Spearheaded by the MP and supported by Ghana Gas Company Ltd., this initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing technical education and innovation in the Juansa community.
The ceremony which was held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 brought together key stakeholders including the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, members of the University's Management team, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department and other members of staff. The others were traditional leaders, religious leaders, Assembly members, residents of Juansa and enthusiastic supporters. It symbolised a collective commitment to advancing technical education and fostering development within the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi emphasised the transformative impact of the laboratory on students' learning experiences. Once completed, the facility will provide a conducive environment for hands-on practical experiments, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Equipped with modern tools and technology, the laboratory aims to prepare students for the demands of the job market and enhance their employability upon graduation.
Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh highlighted the journey leading to the conceptualisation of the project which underscores the University's dedication to holistic development. He expressed gratitude to Hon. Appiah-Kubi and the Ghana Gas Company Ltd. for this visionary initiative, which will not only benefit the University, but also, will uplift the Juansa community.
The laboratory will serve as a hub for research, innovation and collaboration among students, faculty members and industry professionals. It will promote interdisciplinary projects, knowledge sharing and networking opportunities to facilitate growth and development.
Prior to the sod-cutting ceremony, the delegation from KsTU, led by Prof. Dwomoh, reaffirmed their commitment to the project during a courtesy call on Hon. Appiah-Kubi. The meeting underscored the strong partnership between the University and the MP's office in realising the shared vision of advancing technical education and community development.
