Career Options

The following are the employment prospects for students on the programme:

  1. Graduate into their businesses (self-employment).

  2. Manage their businesses as well as other people’s businesses. (wage employment, public, private establishment)

  3. The financial aspects prepare students to work as financial officers in institutions and other corporate bodies. The upsurge in the establishment of savings and loans and other financial institutions have created the need for qualified professionals to access the viabilities of businesses and projects for which funds are sought from these institutions

  4. As technical advisors for SMEs

  5. Marketing executives, agent and conversers for insurance companies 

  6. Non-governmental / civil society organizations 

                

ii.   Sectors that employ graduates of the programme 

Employment or job avenues for the Entrepreneurship graduates vary tremendously, but in the main, graduates find themselves in the following fields of occupation:

  • Banks 

  • NGO’s

  • Publishing Houses               

 

 

Admission Entry Requirements

Eligible candidates must possess one of the entry requirements below:

 

i. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

  1. Six Passes (A-D) in all subjects including English Language and Mathematics

  2. At least (3) of the passes must be relevant to the area of specialization

ii  West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

 

  • Six passes (A1-D7) in all subjects including English Language and Mathematics
  • Must possess a minimum of C6 or better in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialisation

 

iii General Certificates of Education (GCE) Advance Level

  • i. Five (5) credits (Grade 6) or better at the GCE ‘O’ Level, including English Language, Science and Mathematics 

  • ii Passes in three (2) ‘A’ Level subjects (at least, one of the passes should be grade D)

iv. Advance Business Certificate Examination (ABCE)

Passes in three (3) (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects.

 

v. Diploma in Banking and Small Business Management –

 

  • A pass is required to be enrolled onto First Year

  • Diploma holders with a minimum of second-class lower will be admitted to level 200 

 

vi. Mature Student’s Entry

  • The basic requirement for admission is 5 credits at the GCE ‘O’-Level, including English and mathematics, or credit passes in English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and three Elective subjects at the SSSCE/WASSCE level;

  • Candidates should be at least 25 years at the time of application;

  • Candidates should have at least two (2) years working experience;

  • Candidates must pass a mature students’ entrance examination conducted by the University which shall form the basis of a short-listing of candidates; and Candidates must pass an interview.

The applicant must show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate Documentary proof of birth date which is at least 5 years old at the time of application. The applicant must provide introductory letter from employer or show any other proof of employment.
