Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) held its 32nd Matriculation ceremony on Friday, 16th February, 2024 officially ushering 5,932 new students into the 2023/2024 academic year.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Gabriel Dwomoh expressed his joy in addressing the gathering and extended a warm welcome to all attendees. He highlighted KsTU's achievements, including being ranked the best Technical University in Ghana for three consecutive years (2021-2023) by the Webometrics University Ranking. He emphasised the University's commitment to high academic standards and urged the new students to adhere to all rules and regulations.
Providing insights into the academic intake for the current year, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that 8,125 students, comprising 5,386 males and 2,739 females, successfully gained admission out of 8,392 applicants. Of this number, 5,932 students enrolled for the 2023/2024 academic year, including 17 international and 52 postgraduate students.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the solemnity of the Matriculation ceremony, describing it as a rite of passage that formally inducts new students into the academic community. He reminded students of the Oath they swore, underscoring the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations outlined in the Students' Handbook. Any violation of the Oath, he warned, could jeopardise their academic career.

Professor Dwomoh stressed the University's commitment to maintaining high academic standards and advised students to prioritise their studies. He cautioned against examination malpractice, emphasising its potential consequences, including dismissal from the University.
The Vice-Chancellor urged students to embrace the opportunities provided by the University for holistic development, citing various units and sections such as the Dean of Students' Office, the Office of the Chaplaincy and the Sports Section. He encouraged active participation in sporting activities, promoting the idea that a sound mind rests in a sound body.
As the students step into this new phase of their lives, Professor Dwomoh reminded them of the responsibilities that come with their newfound freedom. While the University does not impose strict restrictions on movements, he urged students to exercise caution and avoid anti-social behaviours such as alcoholism, indecent dressing and uncontrolled sexual lives, which the University frowns upon.
The Matriculation Oath was administered by the Registrar, officially inducting the students as junior members of the KsTU community.
